WE HAVE A VISION FOR GME BUT WOULD LIKE ASSISTANCE IN SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION TO THE ACCREDITING BODY.
The client worked with Germane through the Initial Feasibility Process to develop a detailed plan for GME, which included the development of five residency programs designed to serve their community and build a pipeline of future physicians. Following completion of their 10-year plan for GME, the client was ready to begin writing applications.
There are specific requirements that must be met by any program to achieve accrediation from the primary accrediting body. Although the client had many staff who were excited about GME in the future, it did not have administrative staff with experience in GME and did not want to place the burden of application writing, which can be hundreds of pages in length, on the already-busy physicians. Additionally, although the system had individuals who had participated in GME at other institutions, such as the Program Director, none of these individuals had experience starting up a new program, which can be very different from maintaining a steady-state program.
Germane worked with the Program Director and other GME staff to complete detailed program planning and craft a compliant, high-quality application. To assist the client, Germane brought a detailed knowledge of the accreditation requirements and an understanding of key questions to ask the client to ensure the program was built around the available resources and goals/vision of the client. Germane guided the Program Director through weekly meetings to plan the program and review the application progress. Using the information and vision shared by the Program Director, Germane helped to draft all documentation required for the application, make edits as requested by the client, and ensure that the application material remained in compliance with the accreditation requirements. Ultimately, the program was submitted well in advance of the due date, and the program received Initial Accreditation from the accrediting body. The client has completed multiple additional applications with Germane, all of which achieved Initial Accreditation on the first attempt.
