The ACGME is moving forward with a major revision of its Institutional Requirements (IR) and is actively seeking input from the GME community through two public stakeholder surveys. These revisions aim to modernize institutional oversight expectations and ensure that Sponsoring Institutions can effectively support their GME programs, regardless of size or setting.
The Institutional Review Committee has released two topic-based surveys:
Survey 1 (Open August 4 – September 5)
Focuses on the role and oversight of the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and the Institutional Coordinator
Survey 2 (Open August 18 – September 19)
Addresses the structure of the Resident/Fellow Forum and explores potential adaptations to the IR based on Sponsoring Institution size
The ACGME strongly encourages participants to identify if they are part of a rural or underserved Sponsoring Institution or program, to ensure diverse and well-rounded representation in the feedback process.
This is a key opportunity for institutional leaders, DIOs, and coordinators to contribute their perspectives and help shape the future of GME infrastructure. Germane Solutions will continue to monitor this process and support clients in understanding the potential implications of any finalized changes.
